Wait... I'm in Chile, I don't want to do any work?!??!

I've learned a lot this past week. Before I arrived, there were all these horror stories about how you will get pick pocketed. We were told the metros are where thieves hang out, and it sounded like, if you went down there with anything, you would com up with no belongings, and possibly no clothes. Almost like the metros and a large percentage of the city was this guy:

As it turns out, this isn't necessarly true, there are pickpockets here, but they aren't as rampent as I was lead to be. As long as you have your shit in one sock things are alright.

One problem with the metro is that they can just stop. On Monday (last monday 1-7-09) I left my house in Nunoa (both those 'n's are supposed to have these '~' on top of them, but I don't know how). I got to the Metro (Metro Francisco Bilbao) in about 15 min. walking, got on, and at the next stop, it just quit. We sat there for 40 min. or so, then it started up again and took me to school. So, those of you that know me (and if you don't know me, I find it a bit interesting why you are reading my blog?! I digress...) I arrived about 15 min. late for class, which isn't bad for my standards.

Class on day one was Novel. I think the teacher is taking crazy pills or something. Here's what the class consisted of:
Read 7 novels (from 120 pages to 180 each)
Write 3, 5 page papers
10 page final paper
2 in class presentations
and any other assigned work. (of course all of this is in Spanish)
She also said that the class would be centered around Feminism, and the oppression of the male. Which is OK, but I was the only male in the class, I didn't see my self making that many friends in that class.

So, as per my usual habits, I said 'no' to that and dropped that class, now there are 4 people in the class, go get 'em gals.

Lunch consisted of a 'completo' (a glorified hot dog with tomatoes, avocado, and MAYONNAISE, Good god they like mayonnaise) and a beer, Escudo, which to my surprise (and delight) they serve in one liter bottles (34oz.). The whole lunch cost less than $4.00 American.
This is a 'completo':
and yes... that's mayonnaise. A lot of mayonnaise, this is the way that Jorge likes them. I will explain a bit later.

After scraping off as much mayonnaise as I could, and finnishing my beer, I continued on with my school day. My track 4 Spanish is about as hard as I was expecting. Then I had to Metro back home. The rest of the week went pretty well, I added a "Visual Communications" (Photography) class, and we went on a "field trip" with my track 4 class.

Dan has told me about the large amounts of mayo consumed in Chile and how it is a favorite on hot dogs. Grrrrreasy! :^)
